Tookay Temple

Burrowed in the village of Camp Diable, stands erected one of the most beautiful temples of the island. Legend goes that, during the 19th century, when all rocks were being removed at that spot for the plantation of sugarcane, one specific rock proved impossible to lift or even break, despite also the owner trying different methods. The locals then started to deem the rock holy and began to worship it. Some say that the rock was a statue of Amma Tookay. The Tookay temple was then built around this rock.

Standing several meters tall with impressive sculptures of vibrant colours, Tookay temple is a favourite of many tourists as well as locals. It might take you a couple of hours to navigate through its huge grounds and seep in its beauty.
