Aapravasi Ghat is one of the most culturally and historically rich places in Mauritius and is additionally a UNESCO world heritage site for the importance it holds to both Mauritian and Indian culture. It is the landing site of the indentured labourers which the British empire brought from India to Mauritius to work in their sugar cane fields. These indentured labourers then ended being the ancestors to a large portion of the Mauritian population.
Aapravasi Ghat has now been converted into a Museum which documents how life was for the indentured labourers a century ago. This place is a must visit for anyone interested in the history and culture of Mauritius.
