The Mauritian rupee is the official currency of the Island and can be purchased at the Airport or any of exchange across the island. Some of the shops does accept foreign currencies but are not obliged to.
The Mauritian rupees come in the following denominations:
Coins: 01, 05, 10, 20 Rupees and 5, 20, 50 Cents
Bank Notes: 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000 Rupees
